Paper Airplane Gliders & Darts) Distance Challenge Assignment

Paper Distance Challenge!
Welcome to our Glider and Dart Building Video Link Page...Practice Up!

**You will be making, adjusting and flying a paper glider, not a paper dart, made of simple 8 ½” x 11” copier paper like we use in school, not card-stock or heavy paper.  The challenge is to make 2 or 3 different planes, measure each flight and record your distances along with any adjustments/corrections you made after each flight, on the Data Form provided.  You will want to fly each plane 5 or so times to make all your adjustments and truly get the most out of that design before you move on to your next Glider Design.

You will watch each video, normal speed , all the way through to see how it’s built, then you will slow the video down using the video settings icon and fold it carefully step-by-step, so you do it correctly.  Keep it neat, folding crisply as you go.  Make sure your wings are at the same angle, not one up and one down.  Also, don't forget to put flaps on the back edge of your wings IF the plane nosedives or doesn't stay up very long.  Those flaps bend the airflow and create LIFT for the plane to stay up longer!

(watch, pause, fold...watch, pause, fold)

(We can slow down videos by changing the settings below Youtube videos)

Some of these options below are gliders, some are planes.  I took a lot of time watching and building these planes to save you time, but You can also look over other YouTube airplanes if you have the time to sift through all the offerings.  Some gliders fly great as planes, but not all planes fly great as gliders!! Trial and error will guide you.

Step 1 - Watch these quick videos to see the main categories of Paper Airplanes so you can pick what's best for you!
