About Me
Meet Mrs. McElwee
You may have me on your schedule for reading, language arts, homeroom, or all three. In case you're wondering what I'm like; I'll tell you a little bit about myself.
We may have some things in common. I was born in Hershey but grew up in East Hanover Township close to the Penn National Race Track. I went through East Hanover Elementary, went to Camp Hebron as a 5th grader ( my cabin was Grouse Hide-away), and I graduated from Lower Dauphin High School.
I've lived in New Mexico, Mississippi, Maryland, and Germany, so I've had a lot of travelling and moving experiences.
Once I returned to the Hummelstown area and settled down with my two sons, I attended college at Millersville University and earned my teaching degree. I've been teaching for Lower Dauphin for 30 years - 25 years in 6th grade and five years in 3rd grade at Nye Elementary.
My favorite past-times are cooking, hiking in the mountains, tinkering with my native plants and flowers, reading, and spending time with my sons and their families (I have two granddaughters). I also like all kinds of music, attending concerts and enjoy going to farmer's markets. Being environmentally responsible is very important to me, so I try my best to live a "green" lifestyle. While relaxing I enjoy a good cup of coffee or tea.
One of the best things about teaching to me is getting to know and working with all of my students. I'm really looking forward to working with you this year - I'll see you soon!
